IPOs
In IPO, otherwise known as an initial public offering, this is when a company transgresses from being privately owned to being publicly held. The company issues stock which is restricted to a select few initially. This is done so that the company can raise capital. To make money from an IPO, investors usually hope to get in early thinking that the stock will increase in value initially and then dump it for a quick profit. Other investors like to wait and see how the companies doing and if the stock seems to be fairly priced before they buy in.
Selling Short
shorting stocks or selling short involves selling stock that you don’t really own. Needless to say this can be quite risky and is for advanced stock market traders only. Investors to sell short look for the stocks that they think will go down in price. if you use this trading strategy and the stock was up and sent down you’ll lose money.
Margin Trading
Trading on margin is when you have an account that will let you borrow money to buy stock. This margin account can be supplied by your broker. This can also be risky but advanced investors often have a good feel for the stock market so instead of using your own money to buy a thousand shares of stock you can buy it on margin. Then when you realize your profit you can pay that broker back. needless to say if the stock does not go up you still owe the money.
Just like with anything else In life, the more you risk the more you can profit and advanced stock market techniques are no different than anything else in this respect. Just remember never to gamble with anything you don’t mind losing.
